Indo-US drills contributes to ''Trained in India, ready to strike in Iraq''

Oct. 30, 2009

Exercise Yudh Abhyas 09 – the latest in a series of Indo-US drills that began in 2004 – involved the largest deployment of ground forces by the two countries for joint training. But it also contributed to American training to get ready for ''Iraq operations.''
It is a controversy that Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will have to face again. The Indo-US wargame that ended today in Uttar Pradesh helped retrain part of an American contingent that went into action in Iraq and will be redeployed in the war-ravaged country, scaling up the bilateral exercise that was originally projected as a peace-keeping drill.
The biggesr question is should India stay neutral in the Iraq war front?
No, says, some Indian think tanks. It is time for India to get involved with Americans in ce=reating the new world order. Others disagree. They say India's prestige and independence lies in non-alliance to any superpower. It is seen as opportunism to allign with America.
