Petroleum Minister Murli Deora on Friday announced a five-member inquiry committee and compensation for the victims. It may be a way to hush up the allegations of failure of safety compliance by Indian oil corpotration. Oil misnistry is quiet on allegation of terrorism also.

The blaze broke out in the depot in the Sitapura industrial area, about 20 km from the Jaipur city centre, at 7.15 p.m. Thursday evening. Officials said nine people could have been killed and nearly 150 injured.

Sources from the are say, Indian intelligence agencies have started investigating sabotagte scenarios and possible foreign intelligence involvements in the catastrophe. Local residents are upset with Indian Oil corporation's systematic failure in complying with the safety requirements.

Indian Oil quickly announced confirming the safety noncomplaince allegations that it will give an ex-gratia payment of Rs.10 lakh to the next of kin of each employee killed in the blaze, Rs.2 lakh for each of those seriously injured and Rs.1 lakh for those with minor injuries. In addition, the State government has already announced Rs.2 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs.1 lakh for the seriously injured.
