Is US lead in Science,Technology, and Diplomacy in danger? Nobels do not tell a different story, here is why
At a time when some had begun to question how long America's dominance in science, technology and diplomacy could last, nine of the 11 nominees who won or shared this year's five prizes handed out so far are American. Does that mean those who question America’s true dominance are wrong. Not quite, here is why!
Nobel Prize is awarded for past performance. President Obama won the Nobel prize for future anticipation of his performance. No one knows how far Obama will be successful in creating peace while leading a country that is filled with hatred and vengeance. The science Nobel prizes were awarded for works that were done decades ago.
Twenty years from today, America’s real dominance in science, technology and diplomacy will be manifested with the number of Nobel Prizes. There is a vacuum in American leadership in science, technology and diplomacy. That is because of the faulty education system. The emphasis in American research is on publication and citations. Unfortunately, the practicality of research is seldom questioned. The universities get billions of dollars for useless research. Professors and their graduate students write countless articles that are seldom used for any practical purposes. The Graduate Schools are dependent on foreign students and their dedicated research. As America has gotten poor, as dollar loses its real value, as tax revenues fail to provide the countless waste of research money to these universities, there is less attraction for Graduate students to come to US other than their love for the Green Card.
In diplomacy, probably Obama will be the last American to get a Nobel Prize for a long time. America’s image as a peacemaker is permanently tarnished with the Bush regime’s atrocities.
The Nobel Prize Committee has to look beyond the English speaking nations in their future decisions. The real research is going on in Indian and Chinese Government research labs, not in American universities.
As Chinese, Indian, Brazilian, Russian, and South African universities focus on research in coming decades, American universities will have serious difficulty in justifying the waste of huge money in the name of research.
