Indian Software exports to fall to $38-40 billion by 2012 - a drop of more than 30% from the current level. India's software ouitsourcing services and BPO exports, which grew at a fantastic rate of 40-45 per cent for many years of the decade, collapsed to a
growth rate of 8 per cent in 2008-09 and are likely to plummet further to 1-2 per cent in 2009-10 due to the economic depression in US and Europe.
A decline in technology spending by industrialized nations, pricing pressures, delay in demand pick up and an overall depressed economic outlook have led to the severe decline in the growth of the IT and BPO sectors.
India's largest software exporters TCS, Wipro, and Infosys have predicted tough business environment this year. Domestic IT-BPO revenues grew by 8 per cent to touch Rs 9.25 billion in FY''09, taking the total industry revenue (domestic and exports) to $52 billion in 2008-09.
