India protects her 112-meter nuclear sub INS Arihant from foreign satellite eyes
It was in 1984 when India launched its secret nuclear sub project. In the next four years Indian Navy will have 4 nuclear subs with nuclear ballistic missiles ready to strike the enemy 3500 miles away. The Russians provided the technology consultancy help. By 2012, India’s sixth nuclear submarine will have 100% indigenous components.
It was not easy to hide the submarine project from keen American, European, and Chinese satellite eyes and ground intelligence. It was not easy to protect the project from all sorts of hindrance from super powers.
India is determined to protect her 112-meter nuclear sub INS Arihant from foreign satellite eyes. Special deceptive tactics are employed to fool the foreign intelligence and satellite eyes eager to see the intricate parts of Indian nuclear submarine.
Russia’s ambassador to India and Russian technologists associated with India’s nuclear submarine program are present in the secret ship building yard in Vizac Their contribution is richly acknowledged.
From the tip of its tail to its snub-nosed bow, the Arihant is 112 metres, longer by far than any of the submarines in the Indian Naval fleet. At its widest, it is 11 metres in diameter.
The Chinese PLAN (People’s Liberation Army Navy) has 10 nuclear submarines. Some of them are attack (SSN) and some are SSBN in the same category as the Arihant. India plans to exceed Chinese Navy capabilities by 2020.
