Israel defies US and Obama on West bank construction of new homes
Kirt Weinham
Jun. 29, 2009

US president Barack Obama called for Israel to freeze the construction of Jewish communities in the West Bank. But Israel is defiant. They are going ahead with 50 new constructions in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Palestinian political watchdogs are watching this very closely. They are also watching Obama’s and White Houses’s reactions. Israel is in defint mood to restablish a stubborn relationship with Obama Adminstration. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as the White House is quiet on this topic for now. The news of new construction broke just a few hours before Ehud Barak, the defence minister of Israel, was due to meet the US Middle East envoy for talks aimed at narrowing a rift between the countries over West Bank settlement expansion.
