Manmohan Sigh will go to Russia to attend BRIC and SCO meetings

India, Pakistan, Iran and Mongolia have observer status in Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which has declared Afghanistan and Sri Lanka as its ''dialogue partners''. Indian Prime Minister will attend the meeting in Russia. The SCO led by Russia-China was originally set up in 1990s as confidence-building mechanism along the former Sino-Soviet border, inherited by three Asian Soviet republics -- Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Uzbekistan was included in the SCO after 2000 and it declared anti-terror combat and regional cooperation as its main goals.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's participation in the June 16 summit of BRIC that includes Brazil, Russia, India and China is confirmed. The 9th summit of SCO and the first standalone summit of BRIC that includes India will be held on June 15-16 at Yekaterinburg in Russia, the Kremlin announced here on Tuesday.
