Shame for Indian Government – India fooled by the Americans – no sensitive nuclear technologies for India
Ratan Sen
Sep. 13, 2008

Indians feel the Americans defrauded them of their nuclear freedom. Indian Government used cash for vote mechanism to push the deal for the Americans. In exchange Americans fooled India into nothing.

The Nuclear Suppliers Group has “privately agreed” that “none of its members plans to sell sensitive technologies to India”, the Washington Post reported on Friday. The newspaper has quoted an US official to say that during NSG discussions held last weekend it was made clear the nobody planned to transfer enrichment and reprocessing technology to India.

The official spoke of NSG nations’ plans to “tighten up” rules on such sales, thus “allowing them to achieve the same restrictions on India later without causing a diplomatic rupture now”. This helped persuade skeptical nations to support the waiver to India, the report said, adding that the NSG is “nearing consensus on a total ban on sensitive sales to countries like India that have not signed” the NPT.

The agreement would appear to be in tandem with the US’ position. “Sensitive nuclear technology, heavy-water production technology and production facilities, sensitive nuclear facilities, and major critical components of such facilities may not be transferred under the Agreement,” President George W Bush said in a communication on Wednesday to the US Congress on the 123 agreements.
