Ethnic in fight between Bengalis and non Bengalis within the CPI(M) rocks communism in India
Juhi Singhal
Jul. 23, 2008

The fight is between Karat and company and the Bengali leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) popularly known as CPI(M).

The communists in India have indulged in using the Muslim population to obtain votes and control states like West Bengal, Tripura, and Kerala. But the communal divide they promote is hitting them back in their own backyard as an ethnic divide between the Bengalis and the non-Bengalis.

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has unanimously decided to expel Somnath Chatterjee from the membership of the party with immediate effect. This action has been taken under Article XIX, clause 13 of the Party Constitution for seriously compromising the position of the party.

However, sources, internal to the party tell a different story. Close to seven Bengali CPI(M) MPs are eager to go against Karat and company. They say Bengalis are not eager to take orders from Karat and others.
