Reverse engineering extraterrestrial technologies – Lipids, Amino Acids and Carbohydrates with metals and plastics nano provide best shield for space drafts
Scientists are studying closely how extraterrestrial space modules protect themselves from space derbies as well as other mechanically stressful conditions. Many space agencies are developing nano-based materials with special mechanical properties, such as high strength and wear resistance, and controllable electrical and thermal properties. The more interesting part of that is these nano materials are composed of Lipids, Amino acids, Carbohydrates as well as inorganic polymers.
This could lead to a superior material for the external blankets of spacecraft.
Some research agencies are trying to ‘bring life’ in these shields so that the material modules can itself metabolize, repair itself, reproduce and mutate to generate better materials over time.
This can be a real breakthrough in our civilization. If we can generate space crafts that can use solar energy, repair and reproduce itself and even mutate to generate better versions over time, that will be the ultimate space craft.
The hybrid bio- nano-material which incorporates small silicon-containing cages that can open and react with atomic oxygen to prevent further polymer degradation. Basically, a bio-silicon skin would form to "patch" a puncture caused by hit by any kind of space debris or obstacles.
